ESPN’s Jemele Hill made headlines when she tweeted that President Trump is a ‘white supremacist’. “Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists. Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period,” she tweeted.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that she felt that the tweets were a ‘fireable offense.’ And of course, the mainstream media twisted it around to claim that the White House was trying to force Jemele Hill out of a job. That of course, is completely ridiculous. She was just stating an opinion as a human being. However, the media is too stupid or disingenuous to understand that.
“That’s not a decision that I’m going to make, that’s something for ESPN to decide. Again, I was asked about that. I think it is a fireable offense based on the standard that ESPN has set themselves by saying that people that go too far and make political comments have been suspended from their own network. I think that that is a consistency that they should probably focus on,” said Sanders.
MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson still felt like Sanders was personally firing Jemele Hill, because the media are idiots. Sanders again clarified.
“I said it’s not my decision to make for a private company. I was asked specific about that individual. I made a comment, and I stand by it. I think ESPN needs to stand by the standard that they have set in the own actions that they’ve taken about previous employees. I really don’t have much to add on that front,” said Sanders.
